Demure Dame

What a glorious start to the weekend! the sun was shining and it was breezy enough to make you tingly and ruffle your hair without being overbearingly chill.

Unlike other lucky revelers, i was up at six AM with a group of 8 other wonderful people to rehearse the music for our church service that morning. Being part of the music team at church is quite a responsibility. Not only do we have to sound great but we also have to be dressed well too!

Now I am sure the picture you have in your mind of dressing for church is one of dowdy style and dreary colours. Well I am here to shatter your pre conceptions and show you that clothes can still be modest and chic with minimal effort and without breaking the bank either.

Take a look at my friend Nova's lovely ensemble below.

1. Black and sleeveless polka dot jumpsuit from MAX- AED 65 (approx)

2. Black cropped cardigan from MAX- AED 60 (approx)

3. Black one toe open sandals from MAX- AED 40 (approx)

Nova's style is effortless and still within the realms of what is appropriate for the occasion. a great way to maybe incorporate some colour would be to exchange the cardigan or sandals for a jacket or shoes in a bright hue. a bright red, hot pink or electric blue bag would have also been a great addition.

Waiting to hear what you guys think! oh and btw can you believe Nova has had two children? Mum's out there this just goes to show you that you can still be chic no matter what!

YAY it's the weekend!!

TGIT! if you live in the Middle East you know this very term is being hash tagged in blog posts and status updates all across the region today.

I will be meeting one of my two best friends for a general catch up and gossip fest over dinner so of course had to make sure i was properly dressed for the occasion. :)

If you decide to meet friends or attend an event after work its always important to remember to wear an outfit that can easily by transformed from professional to a casual/ after work look. Pictured below is what i chose to wear today.

1. Navy and white 60's print dress from Phase Eight    (Debenhams)- AED 180

2. Black blazer with printed silk lining from H&M- AED 150

3. Black Leather ballet pumps with gold detailed bow from ALDO- AED 100

4. Black dangly hoop earrings from Forever 21- AED 39

5. Red leather bag with gold clasp from Dune- AED 300 approximately (it was a gift so unsure of the exact amount)

6. Dull gold eyeshadow by INGLOT- AED 50

7. Fire engine red lipstick Kate Moss- AED 60.

To take this outfit from day to night, you just have to take the jacket off and maybe exchange the shoes for something slinkier like a strappy red sandal or wedge.

Printed dresses or tops make great day to night ensembles. Just remember to keep the prints neat and simple (that means no giant flowers or leafy designs) and to pair them with neutral pieces. A good example of this would be a printed dress with a blazer like above or a printed top/ skirt with something neutral vice versa.

Any comments or questions? be sure to leave them below!

Auf Wiedersehen! x

Comfy with a professional twist

How do you get to work in the morning? do you drive or run around like crazy trying to hail a taxi in rush hour? or maybe you're one of those lucky people that have their own chauffeur drive service?

I personally take the train to work every morning (or occasionally splurge for a cab if its raining or i'm just being plain lazy) so being comfortable as well as being professionally dressed is imperative! with this in mind take a look at my outfit for work this morning featured below :)

1. Purple wrap dress with black clasp from Tchibo- AED 60

2. Purple and black soft leather bag from Carpisa- AED 65

3. Black oval shaped dangly earrings from New Look- AED 30

4. Dark Purple eye shadow from INGLOT- AED 50

5. Cherry lip stain from Lobello- AED 10

6. Black Leather ballet pumps with gold detailed bow from ALDO- AED 100

As you can see I've paired the purple and black ensemble with subtle touches of gold. This provides a much needed contrast and is a great way to draw the eye and not appear so matchy matchy.

This whole combination cost a total of AED 315; which just goes to show you can still be trendy without breaking the bank! :) As always i'd love to hear your thoughts so be sure to let me know by leaving a comment below.

Until tomorrow! xx

Corporate Chic.

I work as a PR Manager for an IT security firm so finding a balance between being creatively stylish and still appropriately formal is a must! Below is my choice of attire for today :)

1. Patent black leather pumps from Clarks- AED 475.
2. Metallic Grey tote from Kenneth Cole- AED 380
3. Black high waist capri pants from Miss Selfirdge at Debenhams- AED 80 (on sale during Dubai Summer Surprises)
4. Black sleeveles top from Tchibo- AED 20
5. Electric blue cotton blazer from H&M- AED 100
6. Necklace from ALDO Accessories- AED 49
7. pale silver eyeshadow from INGLOT- AED 50
8. Fire engine red lipstick Kate Moss- AED 60.

This outfit is great for a regular work day. The pumps and blazer give it a formal feel while the pop of colour on black still keeps it fun and fresh.

Now i know this get up seems a bit pricey but the only items that make it decidedly so are the shoes and the bag. Remember these are one time investments and ones that can be used a zillion times so totally worth the $$ in my book.

Love it or hate it? Make sure to leave me a comment and let me know! x
